Friend of Thai Science Award 2026
Every year, the Office of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation
at the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington D.C. recognizes 2 candidates
who have made significant contributions in STEAM fields benefitting Thailand,
by awarding them the Friend of Thai Science Award.
To qualify:
1. The nominee must currently work or have had experience in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Mathematics.
2. The nominee can be a Thai or non-Thai citizen but must hold citizenship of the U.S., Canada, or Latin America.

Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Methi Wecharatana
Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Technology, New Jersey, USA
Prof. Dr. Methi Wecharatana is an engineering professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and a long-standing leader of the Association of Thai Professionals in America and Canada (ATPAC), with more than four decades dedicated to strengthening scientific and technological collaboration between the United States and Thailand. His distinguished contributions include establishing Thailand’s first hazardous waste safety center, introducing the Internet2 network to Thailand, and developing specialized engineering curricula at Khon Kaen University with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). As a strong advocate for STEM education and industrial waste upcycling through fly ash research, he has also played a pivotal role in securing Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation for 14 engineering programs in Thailand.

Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Yong Rojanasakul
Distinguished Professor and Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences,
West Virginia University, West Virginia, USA
Prof. Dr. Yon Rojanasakul is a world-renowned Distinguished Professor at West Virginia University (WVU) whose influential research in cancer biology and nanotechnology has garnered over 12,000 citations and has consistently received funding from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). Beyond his global academic standing, he has dedicated over 30 years to fostering Thai scientific talent, mentoring numerous Ph.D. students, and delivering dozens of lectures at Thailand's premier universities. By co-authoring 76 publications with his Thai mentees—many of whom now lead major national institutions—he has left an indelible mark on the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology education in Thailand.
