From March 11–13, 2025, the Office of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., joined a delegation from the Office of Atoms for Peace of Thailand (OAP) in attending the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) 37th Annual Regulatory Information Conference (RIC 2025) in Rockville, Maryland. The conference served as a platform for key stakeholders from the global nuclear energy sector—including regulatory agencies and private industry—to exchange knowledge, share technical expertise, and explore innovative approaches to nuclear and radiation safety regulations.

Participation of OAP in NRC RIC 2025 strengthened ongoing collaboration with the NRC under the Arrangement between the Office of Atoms for Peace of Thailand and the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the Exchange of Technical Information and Cooperation in Nuclear Safety Matters, reinforcing Thailand’s commitment to international nuclear safety standards.
During the conference, the delegation engaged in discussions with NRC representatives on various topics, including workforce development strategies and safety assessments aimed at enhancing regulatory capabilities. Key areas of focus included the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in licensing and regulatory processes for small modular reactors (SMRs), as well as training and knowledge transfer initiatives under the NRC’s Code Applications and Maintenance Program (CAMP). Additionally, the delegation addressed personnel development in spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management, emphasizing the importance of a robust regulatory framework that prioritizes public and environmental safety.
